SystemCheck for TestNav Overview • SystemCheck validates testing workstations meet the minimum requirements needed to run TestNav 8. • SystemCheck also provides the ability to run bandwidth speed checks to help plan for online testing capacity. • PARCC Support may also use SystemCheckresults to assist customers in trouble shooting.
iPads and Chromebooks • SystemCheck will not run on iPads or Chromebooks • App coming to launch TestNav on these devices
Accessing SystemCheck • SystemCheckcan be accessed at http://PARCC.Pearson.com/SystemCheck • SystemCheck is Java based and may require that you run and accept an applet
SystemCheck Functionality • Check Your System: • Validates system requirements are met on testing workstations • Provides steps to verify whether TestNav 8 can run on the workstation • Testing Capacity: • Bandwidth testing for Internet and Proctor Caching connections • Volume estimates for capacity planning
Check Your System: System Requirements • Validates computer workstation to ensure that minimum requirements are met
Check Your System: TestNav Verification • Verifies that workstation can run TestNav
Proctor Caching Introduction Proctor caching: • allows you to pre-cache test content to your local network before a test; • reduces the burden on your internet service provider (ISP) by eliminating redundancy in requests for test content; and • stores an encrypted local copy of all pre-cached tests. Proctor Caching is Pearson-supplied software that is used in conjunction with TestNav to reduce bandwidth requirements and accelerate the delivery of test content. The Proctor Caching 8 installer and training will be available in early 2014.
Proctor Caching 7 Installer Field test districts that want to begin evaluating networks prior to January can download the Proctor Caching 7 installer at http://PARCC.Pearson.com/Support. Locate the appropriate proctor caching software and follow these steps: • Windows: • Save the file, and then double-click the executable file to open the installer screen. • Click the Run button to launch the installer, and then use the wizard to continue installing proctor caching. • Mac: • Save the file, then double-click the ZIP file, and then double-click the application to open the installer screen. • Click the Next button to launch the installer, and then use the wizard to continue installing proctor caching.
Proctor Caching 7 Installer To verify that TestNav Proctor Cache is running, enter the following address into your Web browser: http://xx.xx.xx.x:4480 (x characters represent numbers from your proctor caching computer IP address). If proctor cache is not running, an error screen will appear.
Proctor Caching 7 Installer Field test districts that install Proctor Caching 7 will need to install Proctor Caching 8 when it becomes available in January, 2014. After installing Proctor Caching 8, Testing Capacity speed checks should be performed again to validate bandwidth.
Testing Capacity • Internet bandwidth testing between the workstation and Pearson’s servers • To gather realistic results, SystemCheck should be run from a student testing machine on the same day of week/time of day as when you anticipate performing online testing. • Click Add Caching Computer to add your potential Proctor Caching machine for a local network bandwidth test
Testing Capacity: Add Caching Computer • Add a name for the caching computer, the IP address, and port (4480) • Can add multiple proctor caching computers by repeating these steps
Testing Capacity: Edit Caching Computer • Edit the IP address and/or port
Testing Capacity: Delete Caching Computer • Select computer(s) to delete and then Delete Caching Computer
Testing Capacity: Results • Click on Start to begin the test • Onscreen information helps determine whether the connection was successful or not
Testing Capacity: Results • Based on the bandwidth test, SystemCheck can provide an estimated number of students that can test concurrently.
