  1. How to change the default file format in Open Office • Start open office writer • Click on Tools click onoptions

  2. Click on the plus sign to left of load/save

  3. Click on General

  4. Look for two pull down menus near the bottom of the popup window named: Document type Always save as These two menus will allow you to change the default file format for open office

  5. Choose text document

  6. Choose Microsoft Word 97/2000/xp

  7. Repeat with spreadsheet - Excel 97/2000/xppresentation – Power Point 97/2000/xpthen click on ok at the bottom of the box to save the changes

  8. You have now changed the default file format from Open Office to Microsoft Word format. This will make your files compatible with Word 2000/2003 and Open Office which are the two “office” programs used by Lucas School. Open Office will still read and open other documents that are not Microsoft Word documents
