He authored the chapter titled Business Transformation in the new Handbook of Facility Management published by McGraw Hill (New York: 2001). The 21st Century brings in more changes in both the economic and political arenas. During times of change with high volatility in the business environment, the design and management of a workplace demands a fluid and flexible design in order to meet the evolving needs of the organization. Many companies in Asia are going through process reengineering and outsourcing in order to reduce overhead and to be able to focus on their core business. The result generates more stress and confusion in the workplace. Facilities designers and managers will now need to understand today’s changing business. Local business practices and traditional cultural influences are very strong factors in blocking change. Managers must learn to apply their skills in a creative and innovative way. Creativity is the process of generating ideas, many ideas. Innovation is the process of selecting and assembling these ideas into productive and practical solutions. A team that embraces the freedom of exercising this kind of activities stands a better chance to succeed. Combined with over twenty-five years of corporate facility management experience and a global management consulting practice, our speaker will explore with you new ideas for the workplace and the new skills you would need in order to carry out your new role as a workplace professional. This session includes the following topics: o        Business Trends and Design Trends. o        The New Work and the Workplace. o        The needs of the new Workers. o        Global Trends in Officing. o        Workplace Productivity. o        What are the skills we need today? o        Is there such a thing as a Stress-free environment? o        The new mechanical and electrical requirements in an office. o        Security, Health and Safety in an office. o        How is work being done in today’s workplace? o        What kind of Workplace can satisfy and Design Trends. o        People, Place and Process – the New Meaning.
