Naviance • https://succeed.naviance.com/signin.php • What is Naviance? • A powerful interactive link between home and school, opening avenues of communication • An individualized, customized and secure website that supports academic planning for North Hunterdon and beyond • A resource that helps students and parents make better decisions about college opportunities and career • What can you do on Naviance? • Build a resume, complete on-line surveys, and manage deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers • Research colleges • Compare GPA and standardized test scores to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied in the past • Senior Survey • Must complete this before graduation! • Check off where you have been accepted/denied and your final choice for attendance.
SeniorGroup Meetings • Senior counselors will be meeting with students in their Health or PE classes one day during the week of September 20th • We ask you hold meeting requests, unless time-sensitive, until after those meetings • Students will meet in the computer lab and have an opportunity to complete many of the things covered tonight • If you do not have a PE or Health class first semester or are absent the day of the meetings, then please make an appointment with your counselor
Student Responsibilities • Create a Common Application account at: https://www.commonapp.org/ • Log into Naviance: https://connection.naviance.com/fc/signin.php?hsid=nhhs • Complete FERPA • Click on ‘Colleges’ tab • Click on ‘Colleges I’m Applying to’ • Complete Privacy Notice for Common Application
Student Responsibilities Cont. • Send SAT or ACT scores directly to each college you are applying to. • SAT website: http://www.collegeboard.com/ • ACT website: http://www.actstudent.org/ • Check to see if the school(s) you are applying to are: • Common Application • Naviance eDoc Participants (Non Common Application) • Neither (meaning they do not accept electronic documents). • Please reference this website:http://tinyurl.com/2ctn8eu
Common Application or eDOC School * If school IS A COMMON APPLICATION OR NAVIANCE eDOC PARTICIPANT SCHOOL • Request Teacher Recommendation via Naviance (as soon as a teacher agrees to write a recommendation log on an immediately complete this step) • Click on ‘Colleges’ tab • Click on ‘Colleges I’m Apply to’ tab • Click on ‘Add Teacher Recommendations’ • Complete all student portions of the application and submit electronically prior to the deadline • Make an appointment with your counselor to submit a transcript release form at least 10 school days before the deadline (you cannot submit this form until AFTER your online application is complete!) DO NOT SUBMIT ENVELOPES OR EXTRA FORMS. This will all be completed by the counselor directly on Naviance. No paper is needed!
Not eDOC School *If school IS NOT AN eDOC SCHOOL, meaning they do not accept electronic documents, then please follow the below procedures: • Complete all student portions of the application and submit prior to the deadline • Make an appointment with your counselor to submit a transcript release form along with any secondary school report forms and addressed envelopes at least 10 school days before the deadline • Address the envelope with the college’s admission’s office address and North Hunterdon High school as the return address • 1445 Route 31 S. Annandale, NJ 08801 • Give teachers who have agreed to write your recommendation letters a stamped, addressed envelope for each school along with any teacher forms
Transcript Release Form • A Transcript Request Form needs to be completed for EACH school you apply to. • Hand to your guidance counselor IN PERSON. Do not leave in their mailbox! • You can download a copy from the Guidance Website or pick one up in the office. • Make sure your parent or guardian signs this! • You must mark if the school accepts the Common Application, Naviance eDocs or Neither. • If teachers are writing recommendation letters, then they must initial that they have uploaded your recommendation BEFORE submitting this form.
Transcript Release Form Cont. • NHHS will submit six (6) transcripts to the colleges of your choice free of charge. Students will be billed in June for any additional transcripts at the rate of $2.00 per school. • The Guidance Office will need 10 business days in order to receive the request for a transcript, process it and send it out. Be aware of school vacations and holidays and school deadlines. • Mid and End-year grades are automatically sent! • Do not submit additional paperwork or requests.
Counselor Responsibilities • Counselors will submit the following items on Naviance or by mail: • Transcript • School Report Form • Recommendation Letter (if Junior Packet was completed) • North Hunterdon Profile • Midyear Reports (grades) will automatically be mailed to each college!
College Visits • A COLLEGE VISITATION AUTHORIZATION form should be completed and handed in to your counselor at least three days in advance of the trip. • A letter confirming your visit must be submitted to attendance within five days of returning to school. • NJEA Convention break is a great time to make final visits (November 4,5,6 and 7) before applying.
Planning Your Visit • Typical scheduled visits last 2 to 3 hours • Try not to do more than 2 per day • Overnight visits can give you a much better perspective • Call to schedule a visit at least 2 weeks ahead of time • Make sure you get clear directions so you get there on time (first impression) • Make arrangements to see specific people or areas you want to see • Ask about Open House • If you need to cancel, call ASAP
During Your Visit • Sit in on a class • Look at the housing • Look at bulletin board postings • Read the school newspaper • Look at the athletic facilities • Request a verification form with the date and time from the Admissions office
After Your Visit • Write a note of appreciation to admissions staff • Make sure you have contact information • Stay in contact with the school • Share your visit with your teachers and counselor • Bring the verification form to Attendance
