Measurements of Eljen Scintillator Thickness Edge measurements with a micrometer of the Eljen Scintillator Tiles
What are we trying to find out ? • Accuracy of Eljen’s claim of how thick scintillator tiles are. • How much are they off?
Why is this a good idea? • To check the uniformity of the scintillator tiles • Make sure we get what we paid/asked for
The process Measurements were taken with and without the protective paper on the tiles A comparison was made between these results Measurements were recorded around all four edges of two scintillator tiles The data is recorded by side of scintillator
Results of Measurements With/Without PaperA .15mm difference was found
What does this show? • There is a .15mm layer of paper and adhesive adding to the thickness of the scintillator • This can be subtracted from the measurements with the paper still on the scintillator. • The scintillator’s surface can remain protected by the paper
Preliminary Results • The following graphs show edge measurements of thickness • These graphs have .15mm subtracted from their meaured results to account for the thickness of the protective paper, on average
What we have found • Scintillator tile edge measurements show deviations of 10% or more. • Do these measurements fall within the proposed tolerances?
