BODY • Obesity: is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, • stored in the fatty tissues of humans and other mammals, is • increased to a point where it is associated with certain health conditions or increased mortality. • Being obese and being overweight is not exactly the same thing. An obese • person has a large amount of extra body fat, not just a few extra pounds. • People who are obese are very overweight and at risk for serious health problems. • BMI • Body mass index is the most simple and useful index to estimate body fat. • It is calculated as follows: • BMI = Weight in kilograms/ square of height in metres.

  6. CON’T • So BMI= Kg/Square ms. BMI is index as follows for reference: BMI < 18.5 = Underweight BMI 18.5 - 24.9 = Normal weight BMI 25 – 29.9 = Overweight BMI 30 - 39.9 = Obese BMI > 40 = Severely Obese • It is recommended that men with more than 25% and women,30% body fat are obese.

  7. PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT • Good eating habits • Regular exercise • Anti obesity drugs • Surgery

  8. RECOMMENDATION The group recommends that; • People should exercise at least 30-60 minutes daily. • Reduce sedentary lifestyle. • Avoid high intake of fatty foods. • Eating enough fruits and vegetables. • One should have Adequate sleep. Avoid intake of too much sweetened drinks

  9. CONCLUTION • Obesity experts suggest that a key to preventing excess weight gain is monitoring fat consumption rather than counting calories; in fact, the National Cholesterol Education Program maintains that only 30% of calories should be derived from fat. • Finally, encouraging healthy eating and good lifestyle is the key to preventing obesity.
