Soaring Heights CommunitiesFamily Housing Solar Project (at Davis-Monthan AFB) Presented by John Karelis, Utility Manager,
Ground Array Overview • 3.3 mW photovoltaic (PV) system • 20 acres land. • 45,000 solar panels. • 9 million+ kWh production to date • 3 months to construct
Ground Array Specifications • System Size (DC kW): 3,281 • First Year Energy Production: 5 Million+ kWh's • 45,000 First Solar 75 and 72.5 Watt panels positioned at 25 degrees tilt with an approximate 180 degree due south azimuth. • Inverter: (6) Satcon PowerGate 500kW PV inverters • Structure: Northern States Solar Mounting System
Rooftop Systems: • 379 PV rooftop systems operational • 2.766mW total rooftop system size • 4 million+ kWh production to date • Average rooftop system size is 7kW (90 panels) • 37,280 panels total installed on the roof systems
What is the Value in Having Solar? • Stabilized utility rates for the coming 15 years (solar) • Sustainability • Lower utility cost to free up funding for future community development • Making use of the sun’s natural energy • Offset more than 570 million pounds of carbon dioxide over its lifetime
Year-to-Date Totals: • 63% total powerfrom solar • Solar Produced = 4,351,140 kWh(63%) • Power Purchased from Local Utility = 2,534,921 kWh (37%)
Primary Project Partners • Lend Lease, developer of Soaring Heights Communities • National Bank of Arizona, financier of the 3.3 MW ground-mounted system • Tucson Electric Power – utility partner, provided rebates, interconnection • SolarCity – designed, installed and maintains solar systems • U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation – financing partner forresidential rooftop solar systems
