VITAL at the National Library of Wales

VITAL project pilot from Jan 2005-2006 focused on content streams like video, Microsoft Office docs, and images. Investigated OAIS and preservation issues, implemented Fedora for archival storage, and managed metadata. Current projects include Wills and Welsh Journals online, while future plans involve digitization workflows for Welsh Ballads and Electronic Theses. Workflows are partly automated, with user selections for off-air recordings, creating METS documents, ingestion into Fedora, and updating the catalog. Potential developments include more streamlined workflows and video digitization adaptations.
