Unique and shared: Work here and there? • In your quad, nominate a leader. • The leader makes a list of 5 things that each member of your group shares in common. • Try to make a list that is different from all other groups in the classroom • Each group will get 1 point for each shared trait that is unique to their group! • Hint: “we’re all human” or “we’re all wearing clothes” doesn’t count for points… think harder! • Do you all speak Spanish? • Can you all cook? • You all haven’t seen “Gangnam Style”?

Obama? • Many of the most important reforms in the United States have occurred because of huge, sustained efforts by many people. • Elected officials passed legislation due to people’s efforts. • Examples include: • the minimum wage, • the 8-hour work day, • the right of African-Americans and women to vote, • Social Security for the elderly, • rights for lesbians and gays. • Often, people were fighting for changes that most people thought were impossible, and that weren't even on the political agenda. • #3A: What are the most important issues to you today? #3B: What should be done about these issues?
But where did this all come from? • We may not have much concern about the voting process today, but what set up the world we live in? • #4: What would our government have to do to you or your community to make you leave the country or fight against it?
