Power Point presentation • See not read • Avoid • Paragraphs • Use bullet points • Use phrases not sentences • Limit 6 bullets per page
Simple is better • Limit fonts • Fonts with feet- easier to read • Fonts without feet- Titles • Color combinations • Graphics-1-3 per page • Slides supplement
Storyboards • Organization • Prepare first!
Effects • Bells and whistles may be distracting • Special effects have purpose
Proofread • Spell check • Time presentation • Always have backup!!
Rules- Text • Capital letter after bullets • Bullets have 8 words or less • Font style simple • No complete sentences • No punctuation marks • No ALL CAPS • No more than 7 lines
Rules-Text • Choose one for Title one for body • No more than 2 levels of bullets • Use word art sparingly • Less is more
Colors Guidelines • Limited number of colors • Colors that contrast text and background • Avoid red/green, brown/green, blue/black, blue/purple
Rules- Graphics and Charts • Add message to slide • Face the middle of slide • Guide the eye to the main point • Limit the number of lines
Rules- Transitions • One per slide
Rules-Effects and Animations • Use up to 3 effects on bullet text • Avoid animation effects on graphics from Internet
Background Sounds • Only instrumental • Movie, cartoon or TV songs • Play through out presentation or group of more than 2 slides
Tips for Presentations • Allow one minute per slide • Don’t read the slides • Using Charts and graphs- highlight the bottom line • Dim the lights if necessary • Maintain eye contact with audience • Read left to right, top to bottom
