RDSPress David Morris
Why? • We have reviewed our Research Degrees framework; it now places greater emphasis on continuous monitoring and activity rather than infrequent, lumpy interventions • We are designing a new “VRE” to cover all our research activities • We have run a number of successful JISC projects in the learning and teaching and other areas, but none in the research arena • We have quite a lot of research degree students
The itch • Very paper-based and uninteresting systems (log books, diaries, forms, reports.......) • Research degree students and supervisory teams in cocoons • Repetitive supervision activity • Inflexibility
The interest • Supervisory teams, often including people from collaborating establishments and other universities • The split-site degree scheme • We run Wordpressμvery successfully for other purposes
RDSPress • Integration with other systems • Diary/blogging/communication/ collaboration/meetings ........... • Syndication/dashboards/widgets/plug-ins But collaboratively designed with a panel of students and supervisors
