INTRODUCTION • Postnatal depression or postpartum depression: nowadays is still a prominent issue in public health the goal of public health 2010 (Healthy People 2010 priority goal). • Until now the problem has not been resolved yet (by women and health officer as well)
INTRODUCTION According to a study (Setseet al, 2009): • Many mothers of many cultural background suffered from Postnatal depression • Negative consequences of Postnatal depression affecting the health of women and all of family members.
Perinatal problems • Consist of: • “the baby blues”,(Maternity blues, pospartum blues) (50-80%) • Postnatal depression (15-25%) • Postnatal psychosis (0,1-0,2%)
What is postnatal depression? • Postnatal depression (PND) or postpartum depression (PPD): is depression which experienced by postpartum mothers - usually started to be noticed at the 4 weeks. • PPD could be last for months and even years if it is not treated.
Sign and Symptoms • Mood decreased almost everyday, the whole day* • Minatterhadapaktivitasmenurun / menghilangsecarakeseluruhan • Appetite changes significantly * • Sleeping disorder: insomnia / hypersomnia* • Agitation/ psychomotor retardation • Hilangsemangat • Guilty feeling and restless • Sulitberkonsentrasi • Suicide idea
What is the aetiology? The risk factors • Social support (husband and family) • The condition of the baby • The readiness to have a baby • Psychosocial stressors • History of suffering form depression • Hormonl factor • Cultural
What is the consequences of Postnatal Depression • The individu is suffering • Financial problem↑ • The development of the child is restricted (could be seen at 3 years old there will be delay in motoric development, at 4 y.o could be seen as cognitive development)
Could it be prevented? Could possibly yes, if: • The personal history of depression is noticed (at childhood, teenage or while expecting the baby) prevented from stressors • Genetic factor • Readiness to have baby
