Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home • Community Building • Economic Development (i.e. Chamber, City/ County Government) • - key initiatives within the community • - trusted and relied upon to share your expertise • - advisor to new businesses/existing business in promoting higher educ. • Workforce Development Boards • - collaborate on grant opportunities to develop the pipeline workforce • - enrich your relationship and have increase of referrals of WIA participants • North Carolina Community Colleges - Partnerships • - collaborate on grant opportunities to develop the pipeline workforce and • creation of additional educational programs/degree offerings

Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home • INCREASING AWARENESS OF EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS • Monthly Contact with Employer (no current relationship) • - Schedule open house and showcase a specific area with recent • enhancements (i.e. Mechatronics, Welding, Allied Health etc…) • - Send email to include college newsletter highlighting a recent success • - Send letter or postcard introducing a new class offering and how they • could benefit • - Invite employers (limit to specific #) to attend a “free” one-day seminar being • held at your local college (i.e. Franklin Covey) • - Invite employers to serve on a Panel Discussion related to Workforce or • Education issues

Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home • CLOSING THE KNOWLEDGE GAP (Supply & Demand) • CPCC has over 65 Advisory Committees comprised of 600 people • Established the Center for Energy Training/CEO’s & COO’s inform us of Workforce Development needs • Partnered with the German Chamber of Commerce to develop the IHK Certification • Received an H1B Grant (REACH IT) to assist dislocated workers with obtaining advanced IT skills • CPCC & Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) met to develop a curriculum training program for inspectors of operating Nuclear Power Plants. A Diploma in Nuclear Plant Inspection was created as a result of this partnership.

Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home Integrating Technology • Computer Technology Integration Degree - provides students a foundation in basics of computer technology - includes a specialization (i.e. JAVA Software Development, .NET Software Development, Oracle Administration, SQL Administration, Web Development or CyberCrime & Info Systems Security) • Integrating Technology into the classroom - Partner with other educational institutions to utilize on-line resources to support business needs

Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home Building Strategic Relationships • Engage various departments of the college to develop strong relations up/down the managerial areas of the business • Businesses supporting apprenticeship program for Engineers and Maintenance by becoming a sponsor of apprenticeship and participating in co-op programs • Conduct regular meetings on-site w/employers to stay abreast of current & changing needs

Bringing the Workforce Pipeline Home Building Strategic Relationships • Designed our structure with the creation of “Corporate Learning Center” (CLC) to have a business face for the college with no silo’s • Designated employees within CLC that are assigned/managed accounts specific to industry standard industrial code (SIC) • A dedicated staff within CLC focuses on providing customized training opportunities for new businesses relocating to the area and existing businesses that are expanding
