Roles & Responsibilities within Netball WA (Wing Attack) • To feed the Goal Shooter and Goal Attack giving them shooting opportunities • To work with the Centre in the Goal Third and around the circle edge • To defend immediate opponent the Wing Defence C (Centre) • To take the Centre Pass and to link the defence with the attack • To feed the Goal Shooter and Goal Attack giving them shooting opportunities • To work with the Wing Attack in the Goal Third and around the circle edge • To work with the Wing Defence around the defence circle edge • To defend immediate opponent the Centre
Roles & Responsibilities within Netball WD (Wing Defence) • To defend immediate opponent the Wing Attack and prevent the Wing Attack feeding from the Circle edge • To work with the Centre around the defence circle edge • To look for interceptions • To provide attacking opportunities through the Defence Third and Centre Third GD (Goal Defence) • To defend immediate opponent the Goal Attack and reduce their effectiveness • To work with the Goal Keeper in the Defence Circle • To look for interceptions • To provide attacking opportunities through the Defence Third and Centre Third GK (Goal Keeper) • To defend immediate opponent the Goal Shooter and prevent them from scoring goals • To work with the Goal Defence in the Defence Circle • To look for interceptions • To provide attacking opportunities in the Defence Third
Individual Strengths & Qualitites for a Specific Role When analysing individual Strengths & Weaknesses, three factors must be addressed • Physical – related to your Body • Personal – Mental & Emotional • Technical – Skill & Techniques
Task 1 In your group: • You are going to be given a 3 positions • You then have to decide what Physical, Personal & Technical Qualities are appropriate for each position All in the group have to write answers on Worksheet
Physical Height Strength Speed Personal Competitive Motivated Composure under pressure Technical Range of passes Spatial awareness Shooting accuracy Effective performance of individuals is vitally important to the success of the team. Any strategy used should try and make the best of players’ strengths and minimise any weaknesses. For Example: Tallest players as GK & GS, fittest player as C and most accurate shooters at GA & GS. Individual Strengths & Qualities for a Specific Role
Team Strengths & Weaknesses Although players should be aware of their individual strengths & weaknesses, they should also be aware of how successful/unsuccessful they are as a team and be able to identify team strengths & weaknesses. When analysing a team the focus should mainly be on Technical aspects of the game. For example; • Linking passes • Movement up the court • Group Dynamics • Communication • Success of strategies e.g. Backline pass or Centre Pass. This will help the team with focus during training but more significantly the ability to devise strategies to suit team strengths & weaknesses.
Success within a Team • For a team to work effectively all players must cooperate, communicate & carry out their roles and responsibilities to the highest level possible. This also means being able to adapt/change quickly to meet varying game demands
Tactics • When you carry out a particular strategy you will apply certain tactics to achieve your goal. • A tactic is a plan to attain your goal • Tactics will vary according to the strategy you carry out and could vary or be adapted depending on circumstance
Tactics When adopting to use tactics you must: • Identify and exploit your opponents weaknesses • Maximise strengths within chosen strategy.
Task 2 In pairs – • Can you come up with potential opponents weaknesses - Physical, Personal & Technical. • Then come up with how you could maximise your strengths – Think individual Strengths & Roles Both write down answers!
