Myth • The first references of Atlantis were in Plato’s works: Critias and Timaeusin 360 BC. • In his work Critias, the origins of Atlantis are discussed with Socrates. The story ends with the demise of the Atlanteans by the hands of Zeus. Some of the dialogues have however been lost. • Timaeus, his other work, is a continuation of Critias’ story about Atlantis, in which was mentioned the state of Atlantis and it’s foreign relations.
When the gods created the world, each one was giving a part of Earth. • Poseidon, the god of the sea chose Atlantis. Poseidon fell in love with Cleito, a native Atlantean. He created a dwelling on a hill in the center of the Island and altered its geographic layout.

Atlantean Empire • Outside the Pillars of Hercules, war took place. After conquering all the other lands within Europe and Libya, it became a battle between the Atlantean and the Athenian empires. Though the Athens soldiers were greatly outnumbered, they were more organized and were able to overthrow Atlantis. • This could also be a good opportunity to explore the way that the Atlanteansoldiers might have looked.
Atlantis’ Fate Seeing the increasing avarice of the people of Atlantis and their desire for more power, Zeus decided to punish them.
In one night… Massive earthquakes struck Atlantis. The whole sky turned the color of dry blood, and a mass of black clouds swept across it.
Sea water rose and giant waves crashed upon the island. The great Atlanteankingdom sank to the depths of the ocean, never to be seen again.
