Relation to the story In the book Sold by Patricia McCormick, Lakshmi is a 13 year old girl who gets sold and has to go to a “happiness house”. She is forced to be a prostitute so she can raise enough money for her family back at home.
What is it? Trafficking children is a form of human trafficking. It is defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receiving of children for exploitation.
Facts Trafficking children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. It is linked with criminal activity and corruption.
Facts Trafficking children always violates the child’s right to grow up in with their family. Children who have been trafficked face a range of dangers, including violence and sexual abuse. Trafficked children are even arrested and called as illegal aliens.
