Definitions • Mobile business for the purpose of this seminar refers to any commercial undertaking that is enhanced by recent cellular technologies • Cellular or mobile technologies refer to technologies that are built to interact with mobile networks • “Your Technology” is the environment and tools with which you operate your business

  4. Example 1 - Communicate Points Summary: • The farmer can very cheaply maintain a contacts list of her best wholesale buyers (and other potential buyers) • The farmer can regularly and cheaply update her buyers using SMS to let them know when her produce is going to hit the market • The farmer can cheaply and regularly obtain the going market price using SMS news/alerts services and thus negotiate better margins with her potential buyers • The farmer can readily advertise her produce by sending picture messages of her best yield to her potential buyers

Example 2 - Alert Points Summary: • Storeinformation on the license holders (mobile phone numbers) • Set reminders to transmit based on:license issue date (or renewal date) + renewal period • Automatically trigger reminders on due dates • Pass on cost of single SMS message reminder (cheap!) as part of license fee

  6. Example 3 - Pay Points Summary: • a mobile operator • a bank • a subscriber (vendor) • another subscriber (buyer) • some smart intermediary software
