Heart Attacks in Hawaii2005, 2006, 2007 Numbers don’t lie… People do!
Actual Hawaii Medical Dataon Cardiology ER Visits • This is a study gathered from public information of the www.HHIC.org website which is deemed reliable but not guaranteed. • It is meant as a direct rebuttal of the statements being made by Mr. Don Weisman of the Hawaii Heart Association, who has made claims at the State Capitol on January 17, 2008 that Hawaii Heart Attack rates are down 25%. • Please note that the 2007 data only represents January through June of 2007. Jill Miyamura of HHIC said that doubling this figure was a conservative but not accurate approach. We will be updating and replacing the anecdotal column as the records become available to the public. 3rd Quarter figures are due by January 27, 2007. • It is being furnished to you by The Hawaii Smokers Alliance as an educational tool for the Legislator’s at the Hawaii State Capitol. Please feel free to contact Jolyn Tenn with any questions or concerns you may have at 808-721-8384.
Don Weisman • American Heart Association • Has been telling anyone who will listen at the Hawaii State Capitol, the astonishing news that Hawaii Heart Attack Rates are down by an incredible 25% since the smoking ban took effect November 16, 2006. • That’s him in the background • That’s more like it, Mr. Weisman • Strange how some people react… • When someone actually tells the truth. • Oh Yeah, That’s me doing exactly that! • I think he’s a little irritated, don’t you? • He’ll be much more after this… • PRESENTATION OF THE TRUTH!
Angina Pectoris and Coronary Atherosclerosis Admissions to Emergency Rooms Across the State of Hawaii 2005, 2006, 2007 As you can plainly see, there has been no dramatic drop in this area, if the figures stay on track, the number will have actually increased even higher than the year of 2005. Maybe, Mr. Weisman was talking about a different figure, let’s continue… Actual URL for verification of the information provided.
Acute Myocardial Infarction Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the State of Hawaii 2005, 2006, 2007 Once again, no dramatic drop in these figures. Also notice the downward trend that began the year prior to the Smoking Ban enactment. The ER visits are on track to out pace the 2 prior years of admissions. In patient admissions, however, do appear to be looking a tad better, but not 25% lower. I guess Mr. Weisman must be talking about a different area of study. Shall we proceed? https://www.reports.hhic.org/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/CrystalEnterprise_Webi/view.do?objId=2623&parentId=2623&logonToken=HHIC03@18053Je1mxQ3qPu7GfK9m18050JzSVIhOREfwJEjGPONEOFF Actual URL for verification of the information provided.
Heart Failure Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the State of Hawaii 2005, 2006, 2007 Well, here is one statistic that appears to have improved a great deal on the ER admission’s side. Still not quite 25% though. And still higher than the admissions from 2005. The inpatients on the other hand look to be heading for a 3 year high. Are we getting closer to the truth yet? https://www.reports.hhic.org/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/CrystalEnterprise_Webi/view.do?objId=2623&parentId=2623&logonToken=HHIC03@18071Jr2RY9OtQHEZoNyH18068JH8R8nYVMviTE9U7ONEOFF Actual URL for verification of the information provided.
Cardiac Arrest Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the state of Hawaii2005, 2006, 2007 Isn’t this what most people call a Heart Attack, Mr. Wiesman? This figure is on track to out pace the prior 2 years in both the ER and Inpatient admissions. This does not appear to be going well for the Hawaii Heart Association, but in the spirit of bringing truth, and of being non-biased in my approach to the truth, I shall continue with the study. https://www.reports.hhic.org/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/CrystalEnterprise_Webi/view.do?objId=2623&parentId=2623&logonToken=HHIC03@18071Jr2RY9OtQHEZoNyH18068JH8R8nYVMviTE9U7ONEOFF Actual URL for verification of the information provided.

Syncope and Collapse Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the State of Hawaii2005, 2006, 2007 Slightly better on the Inpatient side, but woefully higher ER Admissions. https://www.reports.hhic.org/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/CrystalEnterprise_Webi/view.do?objId=2623&parentId=2623&logonToken=HHIC03@18071Jr2RY9OtQHEZoNyH18068JH8R8nYVMviTE9U7ONEOFF Actual URL for verification of the information provided

Malfunction, reaction, complication of Cardiac/Vasc device or procedure Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the State of Hawaii2005, 2006, 2007 This one is what is lovingly referred to in the Automotive Industry as a “Comeback”. Other Circulatory System Diagnosis Admissions to Emergency Rooms across the State of Hawaii2005, 2006, 2007 Finally, a good improvement of at least one of these statistics. Maybe this is what Mr. Weisman has been talking about. Would you? https://www.reports.hhic.org/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/CrystalEnterprise_Webi/view.do?objId=2623&parentId=2623&logonToken=HHIC03@18071Jr2RY9OtQHEZoNyH18068JH8R8nYVMviTE9U7ONEOFF Actual URL for verification of the information provided
