2014 South Carolina Educational Technology Plan “Have a VOICE in technology”
Why We Are Doing This? • To ensure that our schools are using the best technologies available • To build and provide educators with a guideline for the use of best practices • To be able to support, measure, and improve the use of technology in our state
What Will We Focus On? • Interview key personnel to determine how they interact with technology • Teachers • Administrators • Students • Higher Education • Local Businesses • Examine how technology is currently utilized • What is being used? • Who is using it? How and Why? • Is it still relevant? • Is it cost effective? • Is there standardization or redundancy?
What Will We Focus On? (continued) • Evaluate the latest technology products and services available on the market • How could we leverage it? • Would it make sense, and if so, why? • Is it cost effective and sustainable? • Who else is either already using this technology or plans to, soon?
Outline Of Our Approach • Identify core team • Review past evaluations and discuss lessons learned • Define roles, responsibilities and expectations • Finalize scope and schedule • Schedule interviews and meetings • Conduct product evaluations and benchmarking activities • Write Draft Report • Review with team and incorporate feedback and changes • Finalize report and present to team
Regular participation on conference calls to share ideas • Honesty (we want to know what you truly think) • An estimated 20 minutes a day of your time for the next 2.5 months • We will schedule calls and meetings to be as convenient as possible • We will set aside times to work directly with you to keep you updated and in the loop in the event that you miss a live meeting • A commitment to complete the assigned tasks on time What Do We Need From You?
The Benefits of Participation • To Your District • Provide your feedback on what tools and services would be most useful to your district, in addition to those that you already have • Ensure that your district’s vision, goals and objectives for instructional technology are clearly supported by the statewide technology plan • Have a stake in what is communicated to Policymakers • Bring state level attention to local level challenges • Provide constructive criticism related to current technologies and business processes
Benefits of Participation (continued) • To Your Schools • Help to define and describe what services, resources, and tools will be provided to help each school to implement their own specific instructional goals • Identify what your peers are doing and how you can collaborate with them • Ensure that the goals and objectives that are important to your school are reflected in and supported by the three year technology plan • Have an opportunity to give valuable feedback as to the role that technology will play in the education of your student’s, both in and outside of their classes • Participate in the rollout of new technology and the refining of policies and processes
Benefits of Participation (continued) • To Your Students • Ensure that our students have access to the tools that they will need to succeed in life • Enable successful individualized pathways of instruction for all students • Provide all students with equal access to technology regardless of their location or choice of school
Are you in? Can we count on you?
