Can you write in your planners that we will be having a test on Tuesday 20th November (on cells etc.) Do now! Can you then continue the sheet we were working on last lesson?
Self-pollination This is when the pollen from a plant lands on the stigma of the same plant
Cross-pollination This is when the pollen from a plant lands on the stigma of another plant
Cross-pollination This is used to try and produce new varieties of plant (called plant crossing)
Pollinator An animal that pollinates a plant is called a pollinator
Nectar Some plants produce a sugary substance called nectar to attract insects. They may also have brightly coloured petals.
Smell Some plants are very smelly (good and bad!) to attract pollinators. Deadhorse Arum
Sex! Some plants look and smell like a female insect and the male tries to mate with it! Mmmmm, she’s attractive!
Other animals Other animals like birds may also help in pollination
Stick it in! Can you stick in the sheets that Mr Porter is giving you on pollination?
More sheets! These are summary sheets of the whole topic.
