  2. How they became “One Direction” One Direction became a band when they were put together as a group in “the X-Factor”. The boys all auditioned separately. After everyone was told if they were going to the judges houses or not, Simon said they were too good to let go, so he made them a group. Simon Cowell was the beginning of the new boy band, One Direction.
