At a glance… • Log on to Hospital Compare • www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov/ • Select Find and Compare Hospitals • Begin by selecting General Search • Select Search Criteria • Options include: Hospital Name or City orZip Code or State or County • Select up to three hospitals to compare • Select all HCAHPS topics and click on either View Graphs or View Tables

  3. Step 1: Go to www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov BLI Tip: Background information on HCAHPS and all CMS indicators can be found here!

  4. Step 2: Select Find and Compare Hospitals BLI Tip: Add Hospital Compare to your favorites! www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov

  5. Step 3: Under General Search Select “Begin Search”

  6. Step 4: Select your search criteria BLI Tip: It is important to be thoughtful when selecting search criteria. Make sure you select the option that will enable the best benchmarks to your hospital(s)

  7. Step 4: Select your search criteria – City Example BLI Tip: When searching by City, it is important to set a narrow distance radius to avoid querying a large number of hospitals!

Step 5: Select up to three hospitals to compare BLI Tip: You can modify your search criteria here: BLI Tip: You can also benchmark all of the CMS Quality indicators from this same query! • BLI Tips: • Notice that 20 hospitals are available for comparison within the queried distance. • Once you select up to three hospitals, Click Compare

  9. Step 5: Select up to three hospitals to compare BLI Tip: Verify your hospital selections! BLI Tip:

  10. Step 6: Select HCAHPS Topics BLI Tip: Clicking on “Select All” will enable you to view performance on all of the key HCAHPS dimensions BLI Tip: This page will give you a preview of HCAHPS Performance BLI Tip: Based on your informational goals, select either View Graphs or View Charts

  11. Viewing your results: Graphs BLI Tip: The Graphs will show you HCAHPS “Top Box” performance for National and State Averages in addition to your selected hospitals in bar graph format for all HCAHPS dimensions.

  12. Viewing your results: Tables BLI Tips: The Tables will also show you Response Distributions for All, State and your selected hospitals. Additionally, you can monitor response rates of the selected hospitals!

  13. Wrapping up… • Key Measures for HCAHPS include: • Remember, several of the key measures are composite scores • Overall Rating and Recommend are outcome indicators • Begin a new search to query additional hospitals! • Your BLI team can help with improvement strategies and efforts!
