Sound Effects Onomatopoeia – bang, pop Alliteration – Pick uP a Penguin Don’t just identify them. You must also explain the effect! Consider the type of sound – hard/short/soft/long?
Word Choice • Pick out words or phrases that stand out to you and explain their effect. ‘The man sneered at the crowd.’ The choice of ‘sneered’ here suggests the man is an unpleasant character.
Sentence Structure • Short – abrupt, straight to the point, shocked • Long – train of thought, excited, childish. • Questions – engaging the reader, sense of confusion of the character. • Repetition – to emphasise a point, to create mood/tone.
REMEMBER! Read the question carefully. Pay attention to the instructions in bold. Reread the section for each question before you answer. If you are asked to make close reference, or give examples, QUOTE AND EXPLAIN what the evidence makes you think of.
