Enabling Grids for E-sciencE SCOW Skills for a Connected World Community Support SSC Text Text David Fergusson, Emidio Giorgio, Gergely Sipos SSC preparation workshop Athens, May 5-6th 2009 www.eu-egee.org EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 EGEE and gLite are registered trademarks
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Aims • Promote the development of a broad range of communities • Development of existing communities • Formation of new communities • Engagement of new geographical areas • Help communities learn from each others experiences • Feed experiences back to EGI • Spread best practice • Support communities in becoming self sustaining EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 2
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Mechanism • Engaging with EGI’s training coordination role • Providing support infrastructures for experimentation • During learning • By developers • By new communities • By new regions • Bringing new provision models • Eg. clouds • Shared events between communities/projects/SSCs • Collaboration with PRACE/DIESA EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 3
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Tools • Summer Schools • Online support • Winter schools • Permanently available online tutorials • Coordinated training event information • Engagement with specific communities • providing exemplars • collecting and publicizing case studies of successful engagement • Cloud based teaching environments • Provision of a online “clearing system” to support users from dissemination through to a VO EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 4
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE SSC participation • Main participants to EGEE-NA3 are expected to continue the activity : • UK (NGS) • Italy (IGI) • Hungary (SZTAKI) • ……. • Additional partners • Germany (JZK) • Sweden (KTH) • ........ • Collaborating projects • EELA-2 • EPIKH • ……. • ESFRI • PRACE • DEISA • ……. • Discussions already with Biomed community EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 6 5
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Governance & Technical Organisation • The Governance Body will be opened to funding NGIs • representatives from other entities (others NGIs, countries without NGIs, summer schools consortia ) can be admitted • A Coordination/Planning Board is expected being setup • representatives both from middleware consortia and operations would improve the quality and effectiveness of the provided services • A web portal is expected to be created and maintained without external sustain • Building on existing mechanisms and NGI services EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 6
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Estimated effort • Three main activities can be identified • Content Creation, Scheduling, Organisation, Delivery (7 FTE) • update and provision of training material, scheduling, organisation and delivery of requested events • Collaboration events • Coordinated Support mechanisms • t-Infrastructure provision and coordination (3* FTE) • support services • (web site, user web forum, user support (Front Desk), training tools..) • coordinations and overview of production resources devoted to training • managing of training-dedicated sites (if any, 1 FTE per site) • Coordinated Trainer Support Systems (1 FTE) • Agile experimentation environments (Clouds) (1FTE) – coordination with NGS (UK) • Promoting simplified instruments for grid access i.e. : • EDGEs, Grid2Win, grid portals (2FTE) - SZTAKI • Activity Management and partner coordination (1 FTE) • General overview of activities, reporting, liasons with EGI management boards EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 7
Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Relation with other SSCs and evolution • An interface can be dedicated in order to provide training focused on specific areas • SSC should request this level of support • contacts already established with Biomed community • Evolution • Roadmap going to be defined EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 8
