  2. Question 5 • Epilimnion was identified above 3 metres • The thermocline was identified between 3 and 4 metres • The hypolimnion was identified as the water below 4 metres

Question 6 • The temperature is such an important variable to measure when studying the ability of a lake to support life because colder water has a greater capacity to dissolve oxygen than warmer water. The life in the lake needs lots of underwater oxygen, so colder water means the lake is healthier.
