NSSDC - Internal • NSSDC ‘legacy 9-track tape’ migration started • Full production mode not yet attained • NSSDC continues leadership (Jim Thieman) of SPASE (Space Physics Archive Search and Extract) • data dictionary and implementation effort • NSSDC continues participation (Don Sawyer) in ‘Archive Certification’ task force • led by RLG and NARA NASA/NSSDC Report to MOIMS DAI/IPR Plenary
Conferences and Workshops • NARA/Univ. of Maryland/San Diego Supercomputer Center preservation conference: 15-16 November • NSSDC moderator for ‘standards and models’ panel • Presentation on OAIS, also noting PAIMAS and XFDU efforts • METS community took note of XFDU (MacKenzie Smith/MIT) • Telecon with METS (MacKenzie Smith & Jerome McDonough) • Liked the XFDU multiple encoding approach • Would like METS and XFDU closely joined (MacKenzie) • Requesting XFDU presentation to METS meetings • Telcon with MPEG participants (Jeroen Bekaert & Herbert van de Sompel/Los Alamos National Laboratory) • Promoting MPEG 21, but have not applied it to large science data collections yet • Asking for liaison with CCSDS/ISO TC20/SC 13 • Requesting further interactions • ASPRS special panel session on “What does it mean to be an Archives?” • OAIS and PAIMAS presentations by Don Sawyer • RLG/NARA archive certification and archival best practices presentations by Bruce Ambacher NASA/NSSDC Report to MOIMS DAI/IPR Plenary
