Definition Lentigines, or its singular form, Lentigo, is a spot on the skin that is darker than the surrounding skin. It is more common on people of Caucasian descent or have fair skin.
Causes • Chronic Sun Exposure • Age • Imbalance in melanin production • Heredity • Radiation Therapy
Signs • Spots on areas exposed to the Sun • Spots that have either darker or lighter pigment.
Symptoms • Appearance of darkened spots on the skin. • They do not itch or get irritated • Can be mildly elevated
Treatments • Cryosurgery • Laser Surgery • Radiation Therapy • Biotherapy
Prevention • Sunscreen can prevent lentigo from ever appearing.
