1862 – Civil War • In Arizona – Battle of Picacho at Picacho Peak, AZ Battle between the Union cavalry patrol from California and a party of Confederate pickets from Tucson.
February 24, 1863 – Arizona becomes Territory(separate from New Mexico) Charles D. Poston, the “Father of Arizona” • Goes to Washington D.C. to interest President Lincoln in making Arizona aterritory. • Became Delegate in 1864 • Chino Valley, capital

1886 – Indian Wars end. • Geronimo and Apaches surrender • It took 5,000 troops to capture Geronimo • They paraded him around various Wild West Shows • Geronimo ended his days as a prisoner of war in Oklahoma dying from pneumonia at the age of 79.
1891 – First university class • At the University of Arizona “The University of Arizona came into being in a time when college education was neither common nor a high priority. Classes met for the first time in 1891 with 32 students and six teachers. The first two colleges, Agriculture and Mines, held classes in the university's only building -- Old Main -- which is still in use today “
1902 – Plans for statehood • New Mexico became a state January 6, 1912
1910 – Convention held in Arizona The Arizona State Constitution was drafted and ratified during the Constitutional Convention of 1910.
1912 – February 14th • Arizona is admitted as the 48th state! • President Taft signed the bill.
