Obesity rates in Scotland • Scotland has the second highest level of obesity in the developed world, official statistics show. • Only America has a higher percentage of overweight adults, according to a recent Scottish Executive report. • It shows that approximately one boy in six and one girl in seven in Scotland is obese. Among adults that number rises to one man in four and one woman in five.
Obesity rates in Scotland • The heavy toll the problem takes on the nation's health is highlighted in the report. It says that almost 500,000 cases of high blood pressure can be attributable to obesity, as well as more than 5,000 strokes a year and almost 30 per cent of all colon cancer cases — around 650 annually. • The cost of treating obesity-related disease was estimated at £171 million six years ago, the last time such a figure was calculated.

Types of exercise • There's a sport out there for everyone, and loads of ways to have fun looking and feeling your best. • Before starting your exercise regime you must find out what is available in your area and what type of activities are suited to you. • It is important you choose activities that you enjoy otherwise you wont stick to it. • Now explore teens first for health web page- which sport to find out the sport for you.
Types of fitness • Different activities have different fitness requirements; • Activities can have different levels of intensity low/moderate/high. • As a beginner you may start will low intensity exercise such as a walk in the park • High intensity exercise makes your body work harder; therefore burn more calories this might be a jog, game of squash, aerobics, cycling etc. • Or you can try to mix it up by jogging 400m followed by a walk or take part in a game sport which mixes the intensity up naturally.
Teenage choices • You are a teenager and nearly at an age where you will be in charge of your life choices. • It is now up to you to make positive choices about your health and fitness. • You can decide what food you put into your body and how much exercise you take part in per week. • JUST DO IT
