  1. Clavicle fracture

  2. Clavicle Fracture Definition • A clavicle fracture is a break in the clavicle bone, It connects the sternum to the shoulder. • The clavicle can fracture in three different places: • Middle third-the middle portion of the clavicle, which is the most common site for a clavicle fracture • Distal third-the end of the clavicle connecting to the shoulder • Medial third-the end of the clavicle connecting to the sternum

  3. Causes of Clavicle Fracture • A clavicle fracture is caused by trauma to the clavicle bone. The trauma is usually caused by: • The most common cause of a broken collar bone is trauma / an accident. This can involve falling down, being hit on the shoulder or being in a car accident. • Some people usually have weak bones usually due to osteoporosis.

  4. Clavicle Fracture Classification:

  5. Symptoms of clavicle fracture and Sings Pain, particularly with upper extremity movement or on front part of upper chest. Swelling Often, after the swelling has subsided, the fracture can be felt through the skin. Sharp pain when any movement is made. Referred pain: dull to extreme ache in and around clavicle area, including surrounding muscles. Possible nausea, dizziness, and/or spotty vision due to extreme pain

  6. Investigations • Anteroposterior view X-ray of the clavicle detects most fractures. • . • Ensure that there is no coexisting scapular fracture which would mean a 'floating shoulder'. • Sternoclavicular or acromioclavicular joint disruption may happened.

  7. Treatment and prognosis of : • Humerusefracture treatment : • A- most humerus fractures will heal without surgery. The majority of patients can be treated with a sling or brace, and with time the fracture will heal.

  8. B- Fractures close to the shoulder and elbow joints, especially fractures that extend into the joint, are more likely to require surgery. Conversely, fractures in the center of the shaft of the bone rarely require surgery, even with the bone fragments appear not perfectly aligned.

  9. Humerus fractures

  10. What is a humerus fracture? Humerus fractures are common. The humerus is the long bone in your upper arm. A fracture is a broken bone. A person with a humerus fracture has broken the humerus. The fracture may occur near the shoulder, near the elbow, or in the middle of the upper arm.

  11. Pathophysiology: Humerus fractures are caused by direct trauma to the arm or shoulder and Humeral stress. Types of humerus fractures: Proximal Humerus Fractures Mid-Shaft Humerus Fractures Distal Humerus Fractures

  12. SignsandSymptomsofHumerusFracture . • Armpain:Painworsenswithmovement • Armbruising • Armswelling-Shoulderstiffness • Armtenderness: • Shoulderpain-Bonetenderness • Shouldertenderness • Shoulderswelling

  13. Investigation A thorough subjective and objective examination from a physiotherapist or doctor is essential to assist with diagnosis of humerus fracture. An X-ray is required to confirm diagnosis. Further investigations such as an MRI*, CT scan or bone scan may be required, in some cases, to assist with diagnosis and assess the severity of injury. *Magnetic resonance imaging=MRI

  14. Treatment and prognosis of : • clavicle fracture treatment : • A- treatment of clavicle fractures consists of sling support for 6 weeks. During this period, the patient does perform pendulum exercises for shoulder motion and active range of motion of the elbow and hand. After 6 weeks, the patient begins passive assisted motion of the shoulder and progresses to active range of motion as tolerated. Use of the sling may be discontinued as pain allows.

  15. B-Operational treatment by the Clavicular hook plate .
