A Star is Born • Keith Urban was born in Whangarei, New Zeland on October 26, 1967 • In 1971 Urbans Family moved to Caboolture, Australia where he spent the rest of his childhood • At a young age Keith showed great talent with singing and guitar playing • Urbans parents worked hard to ensure that their six-year-old son could have guitar lessons
Talent building • While in Elementary school, Keith won several talent competitions • Along with singing, he • began to develop his acting • ability with later helped • him in his stage presence
Keith’s Influences Many individuals have had an influence On Keith’s musical career, these are just A few of which he speaks of: • His parents • James Taylor • Mark Knopler • Paul McCartney • John Mellencamp • Dixie Chicks
The Beginning… • Dropped out of school at fifteen to begin his • Musical career • Began singing with EMI Records and released • His first album • Became quite popular in his home country, Australia, • With four Number One Hits
Chasing his Dream • In 1992 Urban fulfilled his long-time • Dream of moving to Nashville Tennessee • He and former band mate formed a band • entitled “The Ranch” • The Ranch released • their debut album • in 1997 • Shortly after, Urban • had to leave the • band due to throat • problems and as a • result, put on vocal • rest.
Vocal Rest • As a result of Keiths throat problems, • he had to take a break from singing for a time • Trying to make the best of hard times, Urban • assisted some country artists with their music
Keith kicks off his career • Two years after vocal rest, Keith • released his self – titled album in • 1999 • Scored four hit singles • Opened the doors to • touring opportunities • With Tim McGraw, • Faith Hill and • Dwight Yoakam
Golden Road • In 2002 Urbans next album , Golden Road, • was released • Triple Platinum • Three Singles • topped the country • charts
Be Here • In 2004 he released next album “Be Here” • Sold more than four million copies
Recognitions • Named “Male Vocalist of the Year” at the 2004 CMA’s • Compiled His Anthology “Days Go By in 2005 • At the 2005 CMA’s Urban was named • “Male Vocalist of the Year” along with • “Entertainer of the Year” • 2006 CMA “Male Vocalist of the Year • February 2006 won Grammy for hit song • “You’ll Think of Me”
Things Get Personal • January 2005 becomes acquainted with Actress Nicole Kidman • Began dating that summer • Nicole toured with Keith during his Alive Tour that year • Nicole and Keith get married June 25, 2006
Overcoming Adversity • Urban had been battling with addictio • October 2006 he checked himself into rehab • While in rehab, he continued to release his album “Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing” in November • Nicole supported him the whole time until he was released in January of 2007
The Urban Family • November 2007 Keith and Nicole began their family • First daughter Sunday Rose was born on July 7, 2007 • Second daughter Faith Margaret was born December 28, 2010 • Keith and Nicole are devout loving parents
Defying Gravity • Released in 2009 • Hit songs include: “Only You Can Love Me This Way”, “Sweet Thing”, Til Summer Comes Around”, and “I’m In” • Highest rated single to date “Kiss a Girl” • Urban Won the Grammy • for “Til Summer Comes • Around”
