  1. Blogging as Assessment in Kindergarten? . . .YES!!!

  2. Technology is all around us. • As teachers, it is our duty to embrace the technology that we have in our classrooms and engage our students in the digital learning age! Producing 21st Century Learners

  3. A blog is basically a “bulletin board” that your students can post pictures of work to as an electronic portfolio! And…portfolios should be used to move with each student to the next grade! • You can then use this portfolio as a way to assess students skills in all areas! This type of assessment is to show growth from the beginning of the school year through June. What is a blog?

  4. www.blogger.com! • Students will need a Gmail account. • Permission MUST be obtained from the parents!!! How do I set up a blog for my students?

  5. EXTREMELY!!! • On each of my students blogs, the privacy settings are set so that only myself and my principal can see their blogs. • We added their parent email addresses so that their parents could see their blogs as well. • The blogs are NOT public. Is “blogger” secure?

  6. No worries! You can use Microsoft PowerPoint to create an electronic portfolio if your school is not equipped with Gmail accounts! • Any way that you can let your students use technology to create an assessment tool is magic to my ears! But we don’t have gmail accounts at our school?

  7. Have no fear! Computers are here! • You do not need to have an iPad in your classroom to have your students create electronic portfolios. • If your middle school has iPads, create a “tech buddy” system so they can help the younger children! But…we don’t have iPads in our classroom?

  9. We will take a look at one of my student’s blogs that they have been posting to. • As you will notice, it is not called a blog, but a “portfolio!” Let’s take a look at a student blog!

  10. Thank you so much for attending today! • Before we go… • One thing you will take back to your classroom with you… • ALWAYS REMEMBER…MAKE LEARNING FUN AND MEANINGFUL FOR OUR LITTLE STARS! THANK YOU!!!

  11. If you ever have any questions regarding setting up electronic portfolios for your students, PLEASE do not hesitate to email me at BCosham@stmarysimsbury.eduk12.net • And…FOLLOW MY BLOG! Future Questions
