Photosynthesis Virtual Lab • What exactly did we measure again? CO2 Output=net photosynthetic rate= CO2 Consumed (P) – CO2 produced (R) -How did temperature affect this rate? -How did CO2 affect this rate? -How did light intensity affect this rate?
Lab on Lab Bench: 2 Parts • Chromatology= this separates plant pigments based on their molecular weights and hydrogen bonding with paper.
Rf (reference front) value= distance pigment moved/distance solvent migrated. So if the solvent migrated 10 cm… 6 CM 4 CM 2 CM
Quiz 1 on Lab Bench asks 3 questions about this…be sure you can do this. • Now for the second part of lab bench…this is the DPIP part. • DPIP is an electron acceptor. We use this chemical because it turns from blue to clear as it accepts excited electrons during photosynthesis. • We use a Spectrometer to measure this color change. (No spec )

“Design an Experiment” • 1. Use DPIP as electron acceptor. It changes from blueclear as it is reduced. • 2. Measure the change in light transmittance with a spec. • 3. Include a blank with no DPIP to calibrate Spec. • 4. Include control. Include experimental treatments. • 5. Measure transmittance and graph results.
