Imperial Recreation Ground – potential availability after improvement
Structural Survey of Mamhead Slipway • Slipway is formed of concrete slab within sheet pile walls • Some corrosion of piles • Scour of material below slab, leaving a void • Slipway is at risk of failure – hence no option but to close on safety grounds
Short Term Management of Access to the Water • Mamhead will remain closed throughout 2013 on safety grounds • Belshers slipway will be available • Limited width and capacity • Access via a private road • EDDC staff presence at times of greatest demand • Imperial • Access restricted during remediation works
Imperial Recreation Ground remediation • Imperial slipway will be closed until 31 March 2013 • During remainder of works, from April to June • access to the slipway will be made via the Camperdown car park • accompanied, through the works site on weekdays • unaccompanied at weekends
Investigation of Options for Mamhead • Existing location • Reconstruct existing layout • Reconfigure alignment of slip from existing point on highway • Revised location • Run adjacent to harbour wall
Mamhead - Principal issues with current location • Poor immediate parking and trailer provision • Access directly off public highway • Current/ flow high during transient tidal periods • Poor public realm in vicinity of slipway
Mamhead Options • Phase 1 study under way • Conducted by Royal Haskoning • Report by late spring • Ongoing dialogue with • adjacent land owners • user groups
