ElevationsTerms & Definitions • Grade line – the spot where the soil surface strikes the building; the reference point for most elevations • Cornice – the part of the roof that extends out from the wall, sometimes referred to as the eave • Eave – the lower part of the roof that projects from the wall, sometimes referred to as the cornice

  4. ElevationsTerms & Definitions • Roof ridge – the uppermost area of two intersecting roof planes • Roof ridge – the uppermost area of two intersecting roof planes • Rail – decorative barriers and supports typically used to enclose porches and decks
