Welcome to the Nursing Reference Center iPhone app tutorial, a guide to using the many features of the iPhone application version of NRC. The NRC iPhone app can also be downloaded and used on the iPod touch as well as the iPad. The Nursing Reference Center app includes: • All Quick Lessons • All Evidence-Based Care Sheets • All Nursing Practice and Skills • All Skill Competency Checklists • F.A. Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses.
The NRC app is available as a free download from the iTunes App store.
After downloading the App, you will need to send yourself an authentication key from your institution’s NRC account. Click the NRC iPhone/iPod Touch Application link at the bottom of the screen. An email with an authentication key is sent to you. Access the email from your device and click the link found in the email to authenticate the application. You have 24 hours to access the key from your device to authenticate the app. If the key is not used within 24 hours, it expires and you will need a new key.
From the Home screen of the EBSCOhost App, you can: • Set which Categories you wish to be searched in the NRC app. • Perform a keyword search using the Find field. • View your Recent Searches. • View your Saved Searches and Items. • View Help information about the NRC app. • Change your NRC App Settings.
Tap the Categories button on the Home screen to set which categories of content are searched using the app: • Diseases & Conditions: This category includes Quick Lessons and Evidence-Based Care Sheets. • Skills: This category includes Nursing Practice and Skills and Skill Competency Checklists. • Drugs: This category includes Drug Monographs. To remove a category from your searches, tap the check-mark icon. When a white box is displayed, it is no longer selected. Tap Done when you are finished making changes.
From the Settings menu, you can: • Auto-complete: Tap to turn the Autocomplete feature on. • Auto-Updates: Tap to turn the Auto-updates feature on. • Check for Updates Now: Tap to manually check for updates to the content in the NRC app.
To search the NRC app, tap the Find field from the Home or Search screens. The onscreen keyboard is displayed. Enter your search terms in the Find field and tap Search.
A result list with items matching your search terms is displayed. Result List items may include: QL – Quick Lessons EB – Evidence Based Case Sheets NP – Nursing Practice and Skills SC – Skills Competency Checklists M – Drug Monographs Tap a result list item to view the item. The Result List can be re-sorted by date by tapping Date above the list. You can save your search by tapping Save at the top of the screen. Saved searches can be viewed by tapping Saved in the menu at the bottom.
If you rotate the device, you can also view the Result List in landscape mode. Tap a result list item to view the item.
From the Item, you can: • Tap Back to return to the Result List • Tap the Up and Down arrows to page through the results. • Tap Save to save the article's Detailed Record and available Full Text to your device. • Tap to email the article. • Tap Table of Contents to view the full table of contents for an item.
You can view your recent searches or items by tapping Recent in the menu at the bottom of the screen. Recent searches are displayed by default. Tap Recent Items to view items you have viewed recently. You can remove searches or items from the list by tapping Edit in the upper-right of the screen. Select the searches you wish to delete and tap Delete.
Searches and items you have saved can be viewed by tapping Saved in the menu at the bottom of the screen. Saved searches are displayed by default. Tap Saved Items to view the items you have saved. You can remove saved searches and items from the list by tapping Edit in the upper-right of the screen. Select the items you wish to delete and tap Delete.
