LEAD IN • Brief Introduction of the Main Idea • The setting of the story was in India, a British colony. A young giel and a majior had a heated discussion about how women would react to a crisis at a dinner party given by a colonial official and his wife. Then one of the guests, an American naturalist, noticed a strange expression come over the face of the hostess and wondered what was happening. It so happened there was a cobra in the room and it was crawling across the feet of the hostess! In the end, the crisis was tackled in a perfect way. After the crisis, the discussion finished. The story showed us that women are able to face a crisis with perfect calmness and great self-control.

LANGUAGE POINTS • (2) …while a man may feel like it, he has that ounce more of control than a woman has. And that last ounce is what really counts: …though a man may also feel like screaming as a woman does, has a little bit more self-control than a woman and that makes the difference. • Count: be of value or importance • e.g: It is not how much you read but what you read that really counts. • These are tha men who really count. • (2) …her muscles contracting slightly: her muscles tightened unnoticeably. • (3) she motions to the native boy…: she used body language to attract the attention of the native male servant….
