  2. History of Chinese Writing Chinese writing is called Calligraphy • Chinese writing started 3,OOO years ago • Drawing characters is a form of art in China • Writers use special brushes in black ink.

  3. How it is read • Chinese writing has symbols called characters. Each character represents a different word. • Chinese writing is read from top to bottom and from right to left. • There are 35,000 characters in Chinese writing • Chinese people need to know about 6,000 characters to read a newspaper.

  5. Conclusion • Chinese writing is VERY different than our writing! We use alphabet letters and they use characters that are like pictures. • I think it would be VERY hard to read Chinese writing! • I would NOT like to learn Chinese writing because it would be VERY hard! 
