  1. Zoo Web Quest Andrea Guelfi 7th Grade

  2. Question Students will pick jobs available at the Brookfield Zoo and will work together to pitch a new exhibit to the Board of Directors at the Brookfield Zoo. The Brookfield Zoo Board of Directors is looking to add a new exhibit to the zoo. Your group should pick an animal that you think would be a good addition to the zoo. What animal should you pick? What are the costs? What does this animal need in order to live in a zoo? What are the health risks? Your group will find out all these answers and more to prepare you for your presentation to the Board of Directors at The Brookfield Zoo.

Task • By the end of this Web Quest you will: • Understand the different jobs at a zoo • Pick an animal to research • Each job has their own information to research • Type up a notes page with all your research and all the websites you may use • Put all the research together into a presentation • Present for the Board of Directors at the Brookfield Zoo

  4. Roles Animal Curator Registrar Responsible for finding how much it will cost to transport the animal, take care of the animal and make the exhibit. Responsible for finding an animal, researching the animal, and designing the exhibit. Veterinarian Zoo Keeper Responsible for the health care and collection of health records for the animals Responsible for the daily care of the animals. Such as feedings, cleaning, and researching the animals to better take care of them.

  5. Animal Curator The official job of an animal curator is to research animals and their habitats. They are the people who find animals around the world and bring them into their zoos. It is your job to research an animal and learn everything you can about what how that species lives in captivity, what their habitats look like, and how you can recreate that habitat in your exhibit.   6. Registrar The official job of the registrar is to cost out how much it take to transport the animal to the zoo, build the new exhibit, feed the animal, and any take care of the animal. Once your group has decided on an animal you will to research how much it will take to transport that animal safely to the zoo, how much it will cost to feed the animal annually, and how much it will cost to provide all the healthcare that the animal needs for at least one year. You can work with your veterinarian to learn about the basic health care needs for the animal or any medication the animal may need. Use this link to help you better understand your job- Registrar

  7. Veterinarian The official job of a veterinarian is to examine animals, treat animals, and keep health records on each animal in the zoo. They are the first people to see the animals when they come into the zoo because they check for any illnesses, injuries, and check the overall health of the animal. Once your group picks an animal you will do your research on all the health needs for the animal. Learn about the basic health issues this animal usually has, any special medications they animal may need and how others of your animals are doing in captivity.   8. Zoo Keeper The official job of a zoo keeper is to look after all the animals in the zoo. They are the ones who take care of the animals, feed the animals, and clean the exhibits for the animals. Most importantly they know everything about their animals. They know where the animal sleeps, what they eat, what like to do for fun in the wild. So once your group has picked your animal you will research everything about that animal because you will the one who comes into direct contact with the animal majority of the time.
