  1. What do these countries have in common?  United States  Liberia (located in western Africa)  Burma (located in Southeast Asia)

Why learn the Metric System? • Most other countries have either used the metric system for many years, or have adopted the metric system within the last 30 or 40 years. • The use of the metric system in the U.S. is increasing. • This is especially true with global trade. Global trade deals mostly in metric measurements.

  3. A significant portion of Romania’s economy is dependant on tourism. A huge tourist attraction is the medieval town of Transylvania.

  4. Reading Problem: Nancy has her heart set on a summer trip to Europe. Her favorite book in the world is Dracula, so she plans on staying several days in Transylvania. The vacation villa she wants to rent claims that it is 3 kilometers from Dracula’s Castle.
