Aloha! Welcome to Hawaii and C-MORE Hale • Introductions • The Who’s, the Where’s, and the What’s • Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education (C-MORE) • C-MORE Hale • The Agouron Institute • The National Science Foundation • School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology • Daniela Böttjer, Dave Karl, Ed DeLong, Grieg Steward, Craig Nelson, Tara Clemente, Ken Doggett, Karin Björkman, Sharon Sakamoto, Georgia Tanaka, Lisa Lum
C-MORE Summer Course 2015 • This is the 10th year we have run this course. Many of the course leaders (Karl, DeLong, Church, Steward, Björkman, Doggett, Clemente) have been apart of every course. • You are now part of a large (155 students) international cohort of summer course students and faculty. Take advantage of that network.
C-MORE was conceived to facilitate understanding of the biological and ecological role of marine microorganisms. • Based at the University of Hawaii, with partners at UCSC, MBARI, OSU, WHOI, MIT, and Columbia U. • NSF funded Science and Technology Center; 10 year program began in August 2006. • Receives leveraged funding for research and education, including support from the Agouron Institute, Simons Foundation, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. • The merger of research and education is integral to C-MORE’s mission. This course was created to help train the next generation of leaders in microbial oceanography (THAT’S YOU!).
