When a substitute replaces a field player during the first half: No re-entry for the replaced player • When a substitute replaces a field player during the second half: Field player is afforded one re-entry
When a substitute replaces a field player during the first overtime period: No re-entry for the replaced player When a substitute replaces a field player during the second overtime period: No re-entry for the replaced player

Illness/Injury/Bleeding or Blood on Uniform and Signs of Concussion: Situation A member of the officiating crew notices blood on a player’s uniform and instructs the player to leave the field of play.
Bleeding or Blood on the uniform and signs of concussion Yes Shall a substitute replace the player: No Will the original player/sub be charged: Re-entry can occur at any stoppage or at any normal substitution opportunities provided that the appropriate medical personnel have given that player clearance to return to play!
Normal Illness/Injury Situation If a player leaves the field for normal illness or injury and a substitute replaces that player……. Situation If a player leaves the field for illness or injury and IS NOT replaced……
Injury and cards! Situation Players whose injuries were caused by a opposing player who was cautioned…… Can the injured player return – even in the first half? Yes ! When? Any stoppage or allowable substitution times
Situation • What if the injured player is not replaced and there wasn’t a card issued? No! Does the coach have to sub? When can the sub return ? Run of play or normal substitution opportunities!
The last 5 minutes of the game! Situation One team is winning but wants to substitute Stop the clock and proceed with the substitution.
Review Can a coach substitute for a cautioned player? Absolutely! Can the opposing coach substitute ? Absolutely! If so, how many substitutes can the opposing coach send in?
Review Referee instructs a player to leave the field to change/adjust/repair equipment. When can that player return – provided he/she wasn’t replaced?
Summary items: • Goalkeepers • Blood: • Neither the original player or substitute will be charged with a substitution regardless of when the player was ordered off the field! • Normal Illness/Injury • If no substitute, return during normal run of play. One re-entry each period !
Injuries as a result of caution or ejection: • The injured player nor the substitute are charged with a substitution! • Last 5 minutes of the 2nd half: • Winning team wants to sub: Stop the clock And last but definitely not least!
