  3. I will find the volumes of rectangular prisms. • volume Main Idea/Vocabulary

  4. KC 1

  5. Volume of a Prism What is the volume of a fish tank that is 4 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 6 inches tall? One Way: Use a Model Count the number of 1-inch cubes that will fill the bottom of the rectangular prism. The prism is 4 cubes long and 4 cubes wide. There are 16 cubes on the bottom. Example 1

  6. Volume of a Prism One Way: Use a Model There are 6 layers of cubes. So, there are 6 × 16 or 96 cubes. Example 1

  7. V = wh = 4, w = 4, h = 6. Volume of a Prism Another Way: Select and Use a Formula Formula for the volume of a rectangular prism. V = 4 × 4 × 6 V = 96 Multiply. Answer:The volume of the fish tank is 96 cubic inches. Example 1

  8. A B C D What is the volume of a box that is 3 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 5 inches tall? • 15 cubic inches • 30 cubic inches • 45 cubic inches • 90 cubic inches Example 1

  9. V = wh = 12, w = 8, h = 5 Volume of a Prism Find the volume of the rectangular prism. Formula for the volume V = 12 × 8 × 5 V = 480 Multiply. Answer: The volume of the prism is 480 cubic meters. Example 2

  10. A B C D Find the volume of the rectangular prism. A. 468 cubic millimeters B. 358 cubic millimeters C. 221 cubic millimeters D. 26 cubic millimeters Example 2
