Research aim and objectives • The main aims of this research: • to investigate the applicability of Nanofiltration on the membrane biological reactor process. • The influence cross flow velocityon the membrane performancedue to the compounds that could be present in the biologically treated water. These aims can be achieved by characterizing the formed cake structurealong the membrane surface according to: • The load of the Particle count, particle size • active biomass along the membrane surface • Correlation with cake resistance
Configurations of MBR Immersed MBR: dead end filtration Immersed MBR Immersed MBR: cross flow filtration External MBR
Influence of cross flow velocity on the cake layer structure Setup consist of : • holding tank(2) • Heat exchanger • gear pump • (4) manometer • (5) filtration cell • (6) balances • (7) connecters • (8) Pc • (9) Rotameter The increase in cross flow velocity had reduced the particle load and the effective particle size to a certain limit
Influence of cross flow velocity on membrane performance The Increase in cross flow velocity had increased the membrane productivity to a certain limit for both membrane types, while the cake resistance had decreased due to the decease in the formed particle load and the formation of the loss structure of the cake layer.
