Student-Friendly Outcomes & Daily Strategic Agendas Presented by Jaclyn Anderson SHS Literacy Coach Wanda McCall, SHS Principal
Student-Friendly Outcomes • Why??? • Students need to know what they are expected to know and/or do as a result of your instruction • When others enter your room, they need to know what you expect your students to know and/or do as a result of your instruction
Student-Friendly Outcome Examples… What it is NOT: The students will learn how to summarize given passages. What it IS: The students will write summary statements for given passages. **********************************************What it is NOT: The students will understand summary statements. What it IS: The students will identify summary statements for given passages.
What Should be on My Whiteboard Every Day? Daily Strategic Agenda Standards: Write out the standard & standard number Daily Outcomes: Students will…(Explain your outcome in student-friendly terms, and use Bloom’s Taxonomy verbs.) Bell-Ringer: List the strategy (and question/statement stem if applicable)***The Bell-Ringer is not your Before Strategy, but use a Before Strategy as your Bell-Ringer. Before: List the strategy (think-pair-share, quick write, etc.) During: List the strategy (chunking text, jot notes, etc.) After: List the strategy (exit pass, think-write-share, etc.)
Example of What Should be on My Whiteboard Every Day? Agenda Standards: S.S. Bell-Ringer: QuickWrite: What events led to the Civil War? Before: ABC Brainstorm During: Concept Map After: Think-Write-Share
Daily Strategic Agenda Non-Negotiables… • A current Daily Strategic Agenda MUST be posted EVERY DAY. • Agenda MUST have ALL components. • Outcomes MUST be written in student-friendly terms…use Bloom’s Taxonomy verbs! Visit this site: http://www.teachervision.fen.com/tv/printables/misc07/BloomsTaxonomyVerbs.pdf • Standards MUST be posted in your room...this is why you are able to only write the standard number on your Daily Strategic Agenda! • Daily Strategic Agendas will be checked regularly by Mrs. McCall and/or her designees.
