  1. Tsunamika is a Tsunami relief project conceived and executed by Upasana Integral Design of Auroville in the seaside villages of bioregion.

  2. THE PROJECT AIMS AT ,WHAT CAN BE DONE AS LONG TERM SOLUTIONS. … The project has the following dimensions: • Use in post-disaster trauma counseling      • Livelihood generation • Women’s empowerment • Medium for education                               • Example of how ‘gift economy’ works.

  3. The initial aim of the project was to help the women overcome the traumas they experienced, by getting them involved in some creative handicraft work • 7 villages. • 23 handicraft training modules ( 5 days / module) • 480 ladies • 30 Assistant Teachers from the villages

  4. Creative workshops were held

  6. And what came out finally is not only the Products… But Courage , Confidence, Responsibility Pride, and Freedom.

Achievements • 180 ladies earning Rs.750 to Rs.2,500 per month (approx US$ 17 to 56) for the last 8 months. • 480 ladies received handicraft training. • 12 ladies have become leaders in their village. • Creation of nearly 800,000 dolls. • Establishment of distribution network made up of volunteers in 50 countries. • Development of nearly 50 Tsunamika-associated products. • Received “award of excellence” from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, . • Received national and international media coverage in print and on TV.
