  3. Monarchs and viceroys The Monarch Butterfly is poisonous. The viceroy looks just like the monarch yet the viceroy is not poisonous. Predators leave the harmless viceroy butterfly alone thinking it is the dangerous Monarch. “I use mimicry to protect myself against predators!” BACK

  4. Turtle A turtle has a hard shell to protect it from predators. “My protection travels with me wherever I go!” BACK

  5. Prairie Dog The Prairie Dog is able to create its own shelter by digging an underground tunnel system. The underground burrows help protect the Prairie Dog against predators on the open prairie. “I hide from my predators underground. There are no trees on the prairie to shelter me!” BACK
