  3. Growth • End of 2008: 1 billion PCs • 2015: 2 billion PCs • 2006: 1 billion mobile phones • 36 mobile phones were manufactured each second during 2007. What is driving this growth? • Rising demand from developing countries • Increased number of PC per persion • Cutting down costs • Outsourcing to countries like China, India, Vietnam, Eastern Europe

CSR policy of companies • Most electronics companies have CoC – for supply chain • Not all labour rights • Large part is member of the EICC and/or GeSI • Responsibility towards the first tier only • “For the Code to be successful, it is acknowledged that Participants should regard the code as a total supply chain initiative. At a minimum, participants shall require its next tier suppliers to acknowledge and implement the Code.” EICC code only • Expect the first tier to monitor the next tier • Implementation is problematic • Transparancy
