Aims of the UWE STEM Activity Day • Inspire pupils with respect to STEM subjects • Encourage pupils to aspire to university to study STEM subjects. • Enhance the school STEM curriculum • Promote careers that exist with STEM .
Comments from teachers • Activities well matched the capabilities of Y8 pupils • Pupils encouraged to think about things they wouldn’t ordinarily. • Activities were all “hand on” • Young people and their own stories • Nothing negative about the whole day .
Evaluation Question1-I found out something I didn’t know Question 2-The activity was interesting. Question 3-I could see connections with what I am learning in maths and science at school Question4-The activity made me want to find out more about science, engineering or mathematics. Comments from UWE students I am definitely willing to help out again this year with the STEM Activity Days and I look forward to it. I do think my role of demonstrator has enhanced my personal development. … It's definitely something I would mention on my CV. One of the things I enjoy most about the activity days is when you can see the students are learning even when they don't think they are. The interactiveness of each stand makes it fun for the demonstrator too. And of course, I love the free lunch too!
