Military Freefall Parachutist Aircraft Drill – Night Parachuting Procedures Français Preparation for Night Operations and DZ Marking • The Drop Zone (DZ) marking consists of a code identifier which is illuminated by: • Flares or lights and faces into the wind so the jumper can read the letter when landing into the wind • A vehicle’s headlights, as an alternate option, which are facing into the wind so the jumper can see the taillights and the headlights facing away from him Home EOs MTPs Previous Next Screen X of X
Military Freefall Parachutist Aircraft Drill – Night Parachuting Procedures Français Preparation for Night Operations and DZ Marking • Preparations for a night drop are the same as a day drop except when it comes to the following rig equipment: • One green chemical light will be secured to the altimeter with three retainer bands to illuminate the dial during night descents • One white VIP light on strobe will be secured to the top of the jumper’s helmet • One green VIP light will be secured to the rear of the jumper’s helmet • One red VIP light will be secured to the jumper,s chest strap • It is necessary to add lights to every jumper for the purposes of remaining safe during night training. Infrared (IR) light or sticks will be added to build the stack in real operations. Front Back Main Image Home EOs MTPs Previous Next Screen X of X
Military Freefall Parachutist Aircraft Drill – Night Parachuting Procedures Français In-Flight Procedures for Night Operations • In-flight procedures at night are the same as they are during the day except for: • Turning on the cargo compartment green lights to allow jumpers to gain their night vision after all checks are complete in the aircraft • Illuminating all VIP lights and dimming cargo lights two or three minutes prior to Parachute Hour (P-HOUR) • The Flight Jump Master (FJM) telling you which side of jumper #1 you will build the stack (dirt dive) Main Image Home EOs MTPs Previous Next Screen X of X
Military Freefall Parachutist Aircraft Drill – Night Parachuting Procedures Français Landing and DZ/RV Drills for Night Operations Main Image • Night landings can be hazardous because of the flight characteristics of a CT-6 parachute. Since depth perception at night will cause jumpers to flare either too high or late in many cases, all jumpers will turn their canopy into the wind at a minimum of 300 ft, lower their equipment and land with 50% brakes, executing a PLF with the feet turn off. Military Freefall Parachutist Aircraft Drill – Night Parachuting Procedures Français Landing and DZ/RV Drills for Night Operations • The jumper will complete the following DZ and Rendez-Vous (RV) drills upon landing at night: • Collapse the main canopy • Turn off the strobe to let the DZ Controller know he is not injured • Get out of the harness • Gather his rifle and equipment • Remove equipment snap hooks from the “O” rings and put them in the Parachute Drop Bag (PDB) • Remove the APR from the harness and replace the arming pin • Pack the main parachute in the flyers kit bag • Pick up all equipment and move to the RV • Jumpers must stay alert and look for injured jumpers while moving off the DZ. If an injured jumper is found, alert the DZ Controller by lighting your strobe and assist the jumper as needed. Main Image Home EOs MTPs Previous Next Screen X of X
